The Rotary Club of Gig Harbor
Founded in 1974, we now have 125 members. We are well known for our culture of friendly, fun-loving, active Rotarians. We are known, too, for Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self,” and how we honor that motto in our local community, regionally, and worldwide. We are known by our good deeds, such as placing Connie’s Clock at the Bogue Viewing Platform in Gig Harbor’s Finholm District, rebuilding the Orthopedic Guild that benefits Mary Bridge Children’s hospital, building the public restrooms and pavilion in Skansie Brothers Park, and refurbishing and donating the Midway School building to the Gig Harbor History Museum. (See more of our contributions here.)
We also facilitated the building of the Rotary Bark Park, built trail bridges in Sehmel Homestead Park and a new deck at the Wollochet Bay Estuary park. Rotary is perhaps best known for virtually eradicating polio worldwide. All these things take dedicated, active Rotarians; and they also take money.
Taste of Gig Harbor
Our live and silent auction is our most productive large, public fund-raiser of the year. We produce it with our partners, the food, drink, and service businesses of greater Gig Harbor. Guests are not handed a plate with rubber chicken or hockey puck fish. Each diner walks among the many kiosks set up by our sponsors and selects the best of the best of Gig Harbor. While picking and choosing dinner delights, guests browse the auction offerings, bidding on the silent items and surveying the live auction items for bidding opportunities during the most fun activity, the live auction.
